BLDC Driver
Firmware and power electronics for a brushless DC motor controller.
A brushless DC motor driver built around a three-phase bridge and a small microcontroller. The firmware implements field-oriented control with sensorless commutation using back-EMF zero-crossing detection.
The power stage uses discrete MOSFETs and gate drivers on a custom board. Current sensing is done with shunt resistors on the low side, sampled by the MCU’s ADC at the PWM switching frequency.
The project reached a working prototype that could spin a small outrunner motor under load. Development paused while attention shifted to other projects. The hardware and firmware are functional but not refined.
