EM Field Mapper
An instrument for mapping electromagnetic near-fields using a probe array and software reconstruction.
The mapper samples electromagnetic field strength at points in space using a small probe antenna mounted on a positioning stage. Readings are collected across a grid and assembled into a two-dimensional or three-dimensional field map.
The software side handles probe positioning, data acquisition, and reconstruction of the field from discrete samples. The goal is a tool that makes near-field characterization of coils, antennas, and PCB traces practical on a benchtop.
Current work focuses on improving spatial resolution and reducing the time a full scan takes. The probe itself is a small loop, and the positioning stage uses stepper motors driven over serial.
